Perfect for entertaining & get togethers or the perfect gift for the contemporary design lover. This is a vintage ice bucket by famous mid-century designer Georges Briard. This is a faux tortoiseshell design with a plastic/lucite handle and knob. The interior is hard white plastic and it comes with a silver (color) set of ice tongs. This does not have his signature on the bottom but I have seen others that are signed, either this one has worn off or it never had one (sometimes if these were sold as a set they were not marked or only had a sticker.)
Georges Briard (1917 – 2005) was born Jakub Brojdo in Poland, he moved to Chicago in 1937 and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He served in World War II as an Army interpreter, fluent in several languages, on Gen. George S. Patton's staff. In 1947, he was discharged from the Army and started working in New York with Max Wille, who came up with the name Georges Briard to mark commercial pieces. He won many design awards in his lifetime. Briard was a popular and prolific designer from the late 1940s - 1970s. I believe this set is from the end of his career but I could not date it accurately.
Condition*: Very good vintage condition. The handle is tight and moves freely. The handle itself has some nicks and rough spots along the edge from use. The lid is not cracked, it does have one scratch, about 2" long and some smaller ones. There is a wear spot on the outside of the bucket where the handle rests (see photos.)

Hi, I'm Cynthia. I am a shop owner with 10+ years of experience. I do everything within my power, including packing with great care and shipping fully insured, to get your "thing of beauty" to you safely. I shop the fine estate sales and auctions in the horse country of north Georgia, nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, and bring them to you, the beholder.
I was raised in a home where bone china, silver and fine crystal were both used and appreciated. This translated into a love of antiques and handmade items of similar quality. I love the journey that leads me to these beautiful things and I hope you will enjoy my "finds" as much as I have enjoyed finding them.
Please feel free to reach out to me via text or email with any questions you may have. I am frequently hiking on the weekends so your best chance of a speedy response will be during weekday business hours.
Follow me on FB and Instagram where I share additional information on the creation/history of my items.
Helping you find your thing of beauty, Cynthia
