Imperial Glass Company, founded in 1901 in Bellaire, Ohio, was a prominent American manufacturer of pressed glass, known for its wide array of tableware, decorative items, and carnival glass. The company produced many popular patterns, including the acanthus leaf, which was often featured on bowls, plates, and vases. Carnival glass, characterized by its iridescent sheen, was typically produced by applying metallic salts to molten glass, creating a dazzling, colorful effect.

This particular bowl, with its acanthus leaf design and ruby red carnival glass finish, is a classic example of Imperial's output from the mid-20th century. The ruffled, scalloped edge and the four applied feet are typical design elements found in many carnival glass pieces from this era. Such items were popular as decorative centerpieces and serving dishes, and they remain highly collectible today for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns.
