Details

The Mary Gregory style of glass decoration originated in the late 19th century, named after American artist Mary Gregory who worked for the Boston-based glass manufacturer, New England Glass Company. Her distinctive technique involved painting white enamel figures, often children or cherubs, engaged in activities within natural landscapes onto colored glass. This style became immensely popular and was widely adopted by European glasshouses, particularly in Bohemia, which became a major center for its production.

Bohemian glass, renowned for its quality and artistry, embraced the Mary Gregory style, producing numerous pieces like tumblers, vases, and pitchers. These items are characterized by their vibrant glass colors, such as cranberry, cobalt blue, and emerald green, combined with the delicate white enamel decoration. The scenes often depict playful children, floral motifs, or pastoral landscapes, making each piece a unique collectible that reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
