Details
A Fair type 6 (1874-1884) pre-lateral Stanley No. 21 "transitional" wood bottom smoothing plane. It has the eagle stamp on the toe, although it is very faint. It is not in useable condition, as-is, but is restorable. It is the smallest transitional plane Stanley offered. Iron: It has the correct "J" trademark iron, which is recoverable, but does have pitting. Body: Owner stamps on the toe and heel. There is a crack from the toe to the mouth and is secured with what appears to be a nail. There is also a split running from the corner of the mouth towards to heel. Lever Cap: There is a tiny chip at one corner. Frog: Pre-lateral frog is nice with the correct brass adjusting knob and "Bailey's...." patent stamp in the recess. The original finish on the cast iron surfaces is fair with 25% or less remaining. NL.438.966.365781982873
