The Eve Kaplin Memphis Era Vintage Large Enamel Sculpture Mechanical Brooch Pin from the 1980s is a unique and stylish piece of fashion jewelry. This asymmetrical brooch features a multicolor enamel design, measuring 5 inches in length. Handmade in the United States, it embodies a modernist, kinetic theme inspired by the Memphis Era and 80s aesthetic.
Kaplin was known for producing jewelry designs that included an abundance of geometric shapes and bold colors. Some pieces were reversible, and others held kinetic elements. Her way of constructing jewelry using rivets and small metal rings made it unique since traditional methods like soldering were not employed.
Her work is sometimes categorized as Memphis era or Acme era in reference to the Memphis Movement jewelry produced by Acme Studio in the 1980s.
Several museums hold Kaplin’s jewelry in their permanent collections. Among them are The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City.
