About The Record:

Although Glenn Miller never recorded a Christmas album, he would have approved of this one. Christmas Serenade's bouyant holiday spirit and skillful performances reflect the impeccable musical pedigree of Miller alumni Tex Beneke, Ray Eberle and The Modernaires with Paula Kelly. While the orchestrations are firmly rooted in familiar Miller harmony, arranger Alan Copeland has added a contemporary flavor to keep things crisp and up to date. The Tex Beneke tenor saxophone is one of the high points of this album. On each of the selections, Beneke's lovely, lively sound is a joy to hear. Whether he soars fast and fluid in Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Rider or whether he coaxes the notes along with his soft, full tone in Claude Thornhill's Snowfall, he adds just the right touch. In addition, We Wish You the Merriest features the pleasant folksy Beneke vocal style as perfect foil to the Modernaires' smooth esprit de corps. A final thought: your Christmas will be a bit more joyous after you've spun this sparkling collection of holiday songs played and sung in the authentic, authoritative style of Glenn Miller's original stars.
