Details
Vinyl plays nicely; a few light hairlines (play-graded). Double LP. Gate-fold cover has a few creases near edges; light-scuffing on inner-gate; heavier scuffing and tiny surface abrasions (front/back); tiny surface impression near center right edge on back. Inner-sleeves are original (brown with WB order form); one sleeve seam is partially split, the other has two partially split seams. Spine is mostly readable with noticeable wear. Heavy shelf-wear along top/bottom-edge and corners. Openings are crisp with signs of light use and a few divots. (Not a cut-out.)
Despite only covering the first 10 years of his career, Gord's Gold has remained the most commercially popular Gordon Lightfoot hits collection. The double LP set is a compilation album released by the Canadian singer in 1975. The album features re-recordings of his United Artists hits (tracks 1-10). This served to update his earlier recordings to the same style as his early 70s work and gives the album a level of consistency often lacking in similar compilations. The rest of the tracks are from his time recording on the Warner Brothers label. Lightfoot's reasons for re-recording the United Artists tracks were explained in the liner notes as because "he doesn't like listening to his early work". Among many other popular songs, Gord's Gold includes Sundown which allowed Lightfoot to regain the momentum that his career had gained three years earlier with If You Could Read My Mind. Both songs reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. This album peaked at #8 and has been certified Double Platinum.
