About The Record:

Grateful Dead, by Grateful Dead, also known as Skull & Roses, is the second live album by the band, released in October 1971. Recorded during performances in early 1971, it captures the band's evolving sound, blending rock, folk, and blues with their signature improvisational style. Historically significant for showcasing the band's live prowess, it was their first album to achieve gold certification by the RIAA, reflecting their growing popularity. The album features no major hit singles but includes iconic tracks like Bertha and Wharf Rat, which became staples in their live repertoire. Its cover, featuring a skull and roses design by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse, became an enduring symbol of the band’s identity.
