Hooteroll, by Jerry Garcia,is a collaborative instrumental album by the Grateful Dead's lead guitarist, and keyboardist Howard Wales, released in 1971. Recorded during a break from the Grateful Dead's touring schedule, the album blends jazz, rock, and improvisational elements, showcasing Garcia's versatility beyond his Dead fame. It was one of Garcia's first major side projects, marking a significant departure from the Dead’s psychedelic sound and highlighting his interest in experimental music. The album, released on Douglas Records, featured contributions from notable musicians like bassist John Kahn and drummer Bill Kreutzmann. Hooteroll did not produce any hit singles, as it was primarily an instrumental, non-commercial project aimed at a niche audience.
