Romance Dance, by Kim Carnes, released on June 2, 1980, by EMI America Records, marking her shift to a more vibrant pop sound with less country influence. Primarily produced by George Tobin with Mike Piccirillo, it includes nine tracks under their production and one by Daniel Moore, blending soul covers with original songs. The album reached No. 57 on the Billboard 200, charted in Canada and Australia, and was praised by the Los Angeles Times as a top mainstream pop record since Carole Bayer Sager’s 1977 debut. It holds historical significance as Carnes’ first charting album, paving the way for her 1981 breakthrough with Mistaken Identity and the Grammy-winning Bette Davis Eyes. Notable hit singles include the Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 cover of More Love (No. 10) and Cry Like a Baby (No. 44), originally hits by Smokey Robinson and The Box Tops, respectively.
