Details
Vinyl plays nicely (play-graded). 12" Single. Cover has a few creases near edges; light-scuffing, surface impressions (front/back). Inner-sleeve is original (plastic). Spine is easy-to-read with mild-wear. Minor shelf-wear along top/bottom-edge and corners. Opening is crisp with signs of light use and divots. (Not a cut-out.)
You're Not My Kind of Girl, by New Edition, features the extended remix of the track alongside the single version and a dub mix, showcasing the group's polished new jack swing production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. As the second single from their fifth studio album Heart Break, it marked a pivotal moment in the group's evolution, following the departure of Bobby Brown and the addition of Johnny Gill, which helped solidify their status as the blueprint for modern boy bands in the late 1980s R&B scene. The song's smooth harmonies, led by Ralph Tresvant with ad-libs from Gill and a bridge by Ricky Bell, explore themes of mismatched attraction despite superficial perfection, reflecting a more mature sound compared to their earlier bubblegum pop era. Historically, the single's release underscored New Edition's commercial resilience during lineup changes, contributing to Heart Break's multi-platinum success and influencing the genre's shift toward sophisticated urban pop. While it achieved significant airplay as a hit on the R&B charts—peaking at No. 3—it underperformed on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 95, overshadowed by the album's lead smash If It Isn't Love.
