A Day at the Races, by Queen, in December 1976, is the band's fifth studio album and a companion to their previous work, A Night at the Opera, sharing a Marx Brothers-inspired title. Recorded at The Manor Studio and other locations, it showcases Queen's signature blend of hard rock, glam, and operatic flourishes, with intricate harmonies and diverse instrumentation. The album is historically significant for solidifying Queen's global stardom, peaking at No. 1 in the UK and No. 5 in the US. Hit singles include Somebody to Love, a gospel-inspired anthem that reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 13 in the US, and Tie Your Mother's Down, a hard-rocking track that became a fan favorite. Other notable tracks like Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy and Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together) also gained popularity, the latter marking Queen's first song with Japanese lyrics to honor their Japanese fanbase.
