About The Record:

You Are the Sunshine of My Life, by Ray Conniff, is a 1973 studio album featuring his signature lush orchestral arrangements and choral interpretations of contemporary pop hits from the early 1970s. Released on Columbia Records, the album includes 11 tracks such as The Twelfth of Never, Dueling Voices (an adaptation of Dueling Banjos), Neither One of Us, Sing, Peaceful, Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree, Killing Me Softly with His Song & There Was a Girl, The Right Thing to Do, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, and Bah Bah Conniff Sprach (Zarathustra), a playful choral take on Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra. Historically significant for showcasing Conniff's innovative blend of easy listening with modern hits during a transitional era in popular music, the album exemplifies his enduring appeal in the genre. While the album itself did not produce major hit singles, the title track—a cover of Stevie Wonder's Grammy-winning 1973 No. 1 hit—stands out as the most notable single, capturing the song's joyful essence through Conniff's harmonious choir. Overall, it reflects Conniff's prolific output in the 1970s, contributing to his international popularity, particularly in Latin America and Europe.
