This Side of Paradise, by Ric Ocasek, released in 1986 by Geffen Records, is his second solo album, showcasing a polished synth-pop sound distinct from his work with The Cars, though it features contributions from bandmates Greg Hawkes, Benjamin Orr, and Elliot Easton. The album, co-produced by Chris Hughes, blends moody synthesizers and Ocasek’s signature songwriting, capturing the mid-1980s new wave aesthetic. Its lead single, Emotion in Motion, became Ocasek’s only solo chart-topper, reaching No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and gaining heavy MTV airplay.
