Details
Vinyl plays nicely; a few light hairlines (play-graded). Cover has a few creases near edges; light-scuffing (front/back). Inner-sleeve is poly-lined paper. Spine is unbroken, clean and easy-to-read. Minor shelf-wear along top/bottom-edge and corners. Opening is crisp with signs of light use and divots. (Not a cut-out.)
The Firebird/Overtures And Polovetsian Dances, by Robert Shaw, features a vibrant performance of Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird suite, derived from the 1910 ballet, alongside selections from Alexander Borodin’s opera Prince Igor, performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Shaw’s interpretation, released in 1980 by Telarc, is celebrated for its dynamic range and clarity, showcasing his mastery in choral and orchestral direction. Historically, The Firebird marked Stravinsky’s breakthrough as a composer, establishing him as a leading figure in 20th-century music, while Borodin’s Polovetsian Dances are noted for their exotic orchestration and influence on later musical theater. The album itself did not produce hit singles, as it is a classical recording focused on orchestral and choral works rather than commercial singles. This release remains significant for its high-fidelity recording quality, a hallmark of Telarc’s early digital recordings.
