Stanley #4 Smoother Sharp Type 17

Stanley Bailey No 4 smoothing plane. Made 1942-1945 - a type 17. Very clean, sharp and the bottom flattened. It is ready to go to work. Has the war production features: hardwood knob and tote, the depth adjuster is gutta percha (hard rubber). Varnish on tote and knob was shot so I redid them a deep red. It has the frog adjustment screw.
See the pictures. Excellent shape overall. Japaning is 90%+. Lever cap is polished to a good sheen. Iron is a Record. It's a little thicker than the original Stanley one it would have came with.

Long time hobby woodworker. Most of that has been as a power tool user but in the last several years I've taken up hand tools and love it. Also found that I really like putting old iron back into service.
