Up for sale is a nice Stanley #5 1/2 Hand plane. It is a type 9. I say a type 9 because it doesn't have a frog adj. feature on it. It does have the higher arch on the frog receiver. I have seen many 5 1/2, 6's, 7's and 8's with the same features. Some have called this combination a 9a, but most people use the frog adj. feature to determine the type. This plane is in great shape. The japanning was very spotty on it so I stripped it off and re-Japanned it using Stanley's original recipe and baking it 5 times and I think it looks great, judge for yourself. I have flattened the sole and sharpened the blade going through the grits up to 8000. The tote and knob are in great shape and have that beautiful dark rosewood . The blade iron has the Q logo and has very good length. The 5 1/2 is rare in it and the 605 1/2 are the only Stanley planes that have a 2 1/4" wide blade. The sole is in great shape and has a clean mouth. Message me with any questions or if you want more pictures. The tote has a very small chip on the horn that has been repaired.
