Stanley No. 3 - Type 19 (restored & Tuned)

This Stanley no. 3 is a wartime plane, so it has some differences. The front knob is made from stained hardwood, while the tote is rosewood (the tote had a crack that has been repaired). The depth adjuster knob is a mix of brass and black plastic and the posts that attach the knob and tote to the body of the plane are a single steel bolt, due to brass shortages.

The plane has been entirely cleaned and de-rusted. The body and frog of the plane has been repainted with black enamel since most of the original japanning was lost. The sole of the plane has been lapped flat on a zen-wu diamond stone. The blade has been flattened, brought to a hair splitting 3000 grit edge, and matted to the chip breaker. This plane should be ready to go to work straight out of the box!

One issue to take note of is that I believe the lever cap to be not original. It appears that a previous owner of the plane took a lever cap from another plane and ground it down to fit the no. 3. Despite this, it is entirely serviceable and holds the blade assembly to the frog securely.
