This is vintage planter adorned with two adorable little chipmunks, (or squirrels)! Made in Japan during the late 1950s or early 1960s, for Rubens Originals, this stump shaped planter houses two of the cutest little guys to ~ever~ roam the forest. The one on the front of the stump is attached to an old paper and spring squeaker, inviting you to press and hear him "talk". Although he no longer squeaks, his head does still bob around when he's touched. Both little ones have fluffy and puffy real fur collars. So incredibly cheerful and sweet! Condition: This planter is in Very Good shape! As mentioned, the squeaker no longer squeaks - the noise mechanism in most older squeakers relied on paper, which breaks down over time just by exposure to the air. The little guy is still attached fairly well and his spring still... sproings when used. The little fellow on the side has a factory flaw on his ear, it looks like he suffered a small crack in the kiln, but the area was glazed over. I did also notice two small spots of damage: There is a very small chip located on the front, just above on of the flowers, partially hidden by the furry collar. There is another, larger chip on the side near the top - this one is probably the result of an inclusion in the ceramic being prised out, hence the odd shape. The planter still holds water, and neither chip detracts from the fabulous nature of our furry friends! Really, I think this one still looks amazing! The piece measures 4¾" across, is 3½" wide, and stands 5" tall. The actual planter portion measures 3½ across, 3" wide, and is 4½" deep, although there is a very large curved section at the front that subtracts from the space, to make room for the little cutie, of course!
