This is a framed reproduction print purchased in East Berlin, February 1984, during the Cold War era. The artwork depicts a 19th-century Berlin shipyard and riverside scene with half-timbered houses, fishing nets, and a waterwheel.
The print is likely based on a painting by Eduard Gaertner (1801–1877), a renowned German artist known for his cityscapes of Berlin. East German state publishers frequently reproduced Gaertner’s works in the 1970s–80s for tourists and collectors. • Frame: Olive velvet with gold inner liner (classic DDR style, ca. 1970s–80s) • Condition: Print in good vintage condition with faux “craquelure” finish; frame has some light wear consistent with age. • Provenance: Handwritten note on the back – “Bought in East Berlin, February 1984.” • Size: print dimensions 8 1/2” x 11” – framed print 13 1/4” x 11 1/4”
This is a wonderful piece of Cold War-era history, blending 19th-century Berlin art with East German framing design. A great addition for collectors of German art, Cold War memorabilia, or unique vintage décor.

Hello, my name is Sheila Turner and I reside in Central Arkansas. I think I have inherited the gene of colllecting anything and everything from my mother. She was an avid glass and antique collector .
I recently retired and now take joy in thrifting, listing and finding delight in what others see as desirable.
