This is a vintage pair of wall pockets, decorated with sweet little deer! Made in Japan, probably during the 1960s. The face of the pockets are hand painted, and have a pair of deer applied to the front, creating a three dimensional effect. The deer are pictured laying in a meadow under a pine tree, against a gorgeous pink evening sky. The pockets themselves are round, nearly plate shaped, with an opening at the top to hold a small plant or spray of flowers. SO cute! Condition: While each pocket has flaws, I consider them both to be in Good condition! One of the plates has a small chip on the face in the sky, and a scuff to the glaze on the doe's nose. The other planter has a more serious chip on the side - I'd actually call it a chunk rather than a chip, and the buck is missing one of the points from the end of his antler, as well as glaze from the side of his face. The good news is the flaws are not too obtrusive, and the missing chunk does not compromise the structure - both pockets are still sound and water tight! Size: Each pocket measures 6" across, and is about 1¼" thick. The opening on the top is about 1¾" across, by 1" across. A small opening, but lots of room inside!
