This is a vintage salt and pepper shaker set, in the shape of cheerful snails! Made in Japan during the 1950s, for Enesco, these fine fellows were crafted from a light weight ceramic and skillfully hand painted. There was a whole line of Snappy kitchenware, including spoon rests, treat jars, ashtrays, and of course, these fun little shakers. Heard of the slow cooking movement? I bet these guys are experts! Condition: This set is in Very Good Shape! While there are no chips or cracks, this duo has suffered the loss of their original antennae. They would have been made from a clear plastic, and for some reason they never seem to survive. Regular wear and tear? A teething toddler? Whatever the reason, they were just plain gone! I could not find anything resembling the original plastic to replace them, but I did find what I think are good substitutes and glued them on to complete their look. Yes, they are hair brush bristles, and don't worry, it was a brand new brush bought just for this purpose! Other than their antenna dilemma, one of the shakers does have a little bit of staining on the back of his head. He was probably the pepper shaker, as pepper does contain a very small amount of oil that can leach out over time. Overall though, this pair certainly still delivers on the cute factor! Size: Each shaker measures 2½ " long, is 1¼" across, and sits 4" tall at the top of the antennas.
