Wood Jelly - Raw Linseed Oil, & Soft Beeswax Finish

$18.99

Details

Wood Jelly is a return to the kind of finish your great-great-grandfather might’ve used — a soft, natural wood treatment made from just three ingredients: raw linseed oil, beeswax, and citrus-based d-limonene. This handmade blend brings out the grain, gives a subtle glow, and leaves the wood feeling like wood.

It’s ideal for furniture, carved pieces, turned bowls, spoons, tool handles — anything meant to be touched. Unlike lacquer or modern oil blends, Wood Jelly doesn’t leave behind a glossy plastic shell. It soaks into the wood, nourishes it, and leaves a soft, warm luster.

🔨 Why Use Wood Jelly?

  • Non-toxic and low VOC – Safe to apply.
  • No plastic feel – Enhances wood's natural texture without sealing it under a film.
  • Easy upkeep – Simply reapply when wood begins to look dry.
  • Historical authenticity – Based on pre-industrial finishing techniques using raw linseed oil.
  • Gentle color tone – Offers a soft amber hue without the deep darkening of boiled oils.

Modern finishes often rely on petroleum resins and heavy metal dryers. Wood Jelly skips all of that. There’s no cobalt, no manganese, no artificial drying agents. Just ingredients that wood has known for centuries.

🧽 How to Apply:

  • Sand the surface to between 180–220 grit.
  • Apply a thin layer of Wood Jelly with a cloth or your hands.
  • Let it sit for 15–20 minutes so the oil can absorb.
  • Wipe off all the excess with a clean rag.
  • Let dry in open air — dry to the touch in a few hours, cured in 7–14 days.

IMPORTANT: Like any finish containing linseed oil, used rags must be dried flat before disposal to prevent combustion.

🧴 Ingredients:

  • Raw Linseed Oil – No metallic driers.
  • Beeswax – Cosmetics-grade, for a gentle satin sheen and minor water resistance.
  • D-Limonene – A natural citrus solvent that softens the wax and helps with absorption.

📦 Size and Coverage: Each jar contains 4 oz. or 8 oz. of finish (depending on your order) — A 4 Oz jar will cover between 25 and 50 square feet. An 8 Oz jar will cover between 50 and 100 square feet. That is enough for approximately two full dining chairs, one medium dresser, or several small projects.

Whether you're finishing a Shaker chair, restoring a handplane tote, or putting the final touch on a carved bowl, Wood Jelly offers an honest, simple, old-world solution — no resin, no gloss, no nonsense.
